Sunday October 20, 2024
Welcome to the 22nd Sunday after Pentecost! Today, we celebrate a special moment in our worship—the Blessing of Quilts and Kits. These items, lovingly made by members of our community, will be sent with Lutheran World Relief to benefit those in need around the world. Everyone is invited to be part of this meaningful mission, sharing Christ’s love through acts of service.
In our Gospel reading from Mark 10:35-45, James and John ask Jesus for positions of honor in his glory. Jesus responds by teaching that greatness in God’s kingdom is not found in power or status, but in serving others. “Whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant,” he says, reminding us that true discipleship is about humility, service, and caring for those in need.
As we bless these quilts and kits today, we are living out this call to serve. By providing warmth, comfort, and essential supplies, we reflect Christ’s love and compassion to people in crisis. Let us be inspired by Jesus’ example and continue to serve our neighbors, near and far, with humble and generous hearts.
May our worship today be a blessing to those we serve and a reminder that we are all called to be servants in Christ’s name.
