For our worship service on Sunday, September 20, we will offer praise and thanks to God because he is gracious and merciful, abounding in steadfast love. In our Gospel reading (Matthew 20:1-16), Jesus tells a parable about God’s generosity, challenging the notion that God rewards people according to what they have earned or deserve. Jesus says that God is like a landowner who pays his workers the same wage no matter what time of day they began to work. Some bystanders who heard this parable probably thought that the workers weren't treated fairly. Yet we can be thankful that while paying the workers equally may seem unfair by worldly standards, it shows how God's grace is freely given to all. As Martin Luther wrote, "We are all beggars before the cross." Indeed, in the presence of God’s mercy we stand in need before him.

Faith Fire Praise Band is back on Sunday and will lead us in singing a number of beautiful songs including "This is Amazing Grace." We will also present Bibles to sixteen children of different ages so that they can delve into God's Word and grow in faith.
