Brick by Brick: Building Faith Together!
A weekly reflection and a look ahead at Faith Lutheran Church.
A weekly reflection and a look ahead at Faith Lutheran Church.
This Week’s Reflection
As we entered the sanctuary on Sun Oct 18, the pews were beautifully draped with handmade quilts that our Piece Corps Quilting group had created over the course of the last year. We are most grateful to Jamy Yohn, Sue Vick and Cindy Mueller who coordinate the quilters and also all the volunteers from our church and the community who participate. Together they made over 800 quilts that will be sent all over the world to provide warmth to those in need.
The Faith Fire Praise Band led us in beautiful songs of praise and worship as we lifted our voices to God. Anthem we sang included "Make Me an Instrument," based on the Prayer of St Francis of Assisi, and Casting Crown's "Who Am I?"
Our Gospel reading for Sunday (Matthew 22:15-22) makes it clear that we all belong to God and bear his imprint upon us. Indeed, we are all God's children and are made in his image. The Pharisees try to trap Jesus by showing him a Roman coin with Ceasar's image on it and ask him whether it is lawful to pay taxes to Ceasar. But Jesus turns the question right back on them. He looks at the coin and he says, “Whose head is this, and whose title?” They answer him, “It’s the emperor's.” Jesus knows that the emperor owns all the wealth in the Empire. The fact that the emperor’s head is inscribed on the coin tells you that even though you may think it’s yours, it’s not. Because in the end all the money in the empire belongs to that divine ruler, whose imprint is stamped on the coin. And so Jesus answers back, “Give therefore to the emperor the things that are the emperor’s.” But Jesus doesn’t stop there. He adds a twist when he says, “And give to God the things that are God’s.” And that’s what Jesus wants the Pharisees to really be concerned about – whether or not they are honoring the Lord God who created them, the one true God, the God to whom we all belong.

Small Group Opportunities
FALL FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITIES: Please sign-up in the Gathering Area for one (or more) of the following opportunities to get to one another better this fall....
Men’s Group – Are there any men who are interested in getting together once-a-month for breakfast and Devotions/Bible study?
German Baking – Last year we had a successful Scandinavian Baking event on a Saturday morning that was led by three Faith Lutheran members. This year we have had a request to try a German Baking event. (Black Forest Chocolate Cake or Feffernuts, anyone?)
Dinner Groups – For the past 2 years, we have had several “Dinner for 8” groups meet periodically for food, fellowship and reflection. In fact, some groups are still meeting! This is an opportunity to meet fellow worshippers in a relaxed setting and make new friends.

Happy Fall Everyone!
It's that wonderful time of year when there's a crispness in the air, the leaves are turning red, yellow and orange and it's time to turn the oven on!
We have many great bakers in our congregation, men and women alike. But we don't want to take away any time from your many other duties, chores, family, etc. just because it's time for our 3rd annual No Bake, Bake Sale! So, leave the mixing bowl, measuring cups, flour and sugar in the cupboard and write a check to FLC Women.
This is how it works. You determine how much it would cost you to bake something for a Bake Sale. Include the cost of ingredients, your time shopping, baking and helping at a sale. Then write a check for that amount to FLC Women and indicate No Bake, Bake Sale on the Memo line. Isn't that easier than baking?
This year all funds received will be divided between four entities. One-fourth to our Capital Campaign, one-fourth to FLY Mission Trip, one-fourth to LWR Shipping Fund (to defray costs of shipping quilts) and one-fourth for Personal Care Kits through Piece Corps..
So, put on your baker's hat and think about what it's worth to you to not bake something for a bake sale. Then write out your check, bring it back to church no later than November 1st and place it in the offering collection plate.
We thank you from the bottom of our muffin tins!
